The Fantastic Four issues are prequels, written in retrospect to explain how the Marvel Zombie verse came about.
The first publications of Marvel Zombies were released from December 2005 until April 2006, in a five issue limited series which was aptly titled ‘Marvel Zombies‘.
How were the Marvel Zombies Created?
Written by Robert Kirkman and featuring art created by Sean Phillips and covers designed by Arthur Suydam, these comics followed on from the story arc which was outlined in the Ultimate Fantastic Four issues, wherein Reed Richards is tricked into transporting to a zombie-infested alternate dimension!
Alternate Earth Dimension
As such, this five issue limited series is set within an alternative reality, Earth-2149, where we soon discover that all of our favourite Marvel superheroes have been transformed into zombies!
What is a Marvel Zombie?
Conventional zombies are incapable of speech, rational thought and any purpose except for craving human flesh. Marvel Zombies however, are different. These zombie-fied superheroes retain all of their personality traits from the original comics. Furthermore, they frequently argue amongst one another.
Marvel Zombies Combine Forces
Their Marvel hero tactic of combining forces to act in unison to achieve a common goal does remain. However, rather than saving humanity and vanquishing evil, the primary goal of the Marvel Zombies is eating human flesh!
Zombie Marvel-lous Mayhem
When we first venture within this Marvel Zombies universe, all we know is that an unknown superhero was brought forth from an alternate dimension by the “Hunger” and rapidly proceeded to infect the Avengers with its zombie virus. Once transformed, the newly zombie-fied Avengers transformed all of their fellow superheroes into flesh-craving zombies. Eventually, they have consumed all of the humans on the planet.
Can the Silver Surfer Help?
The Marvel Zombies are craving human flesh and have no viable food source when the Silver Surfer arrives. He brings them warning about the impending arrival of Galactus. Unfortunately, the Marvel Zombies pay no attention to his words and end up devouring the Silver Surfer.
This is a process which enables them to absorb a portion of his Power Cosmic. When Galactus eventually arrives, the Marvel zombies endeavour to consume him as well in order to venture across the galaxy on an interplanetary food crawl!
Check out these three action figures: Zombie Spiderman , Zombie Colonel America and Zombie Hulk.
Each of them is standing on a base. When put together, they create a scene from the demise of the silver surfer at the hands of the Marvel Zombies.
