Directed by renowned Norwegian producer, screenwriter and director Tommy Wirkola, Dead Snow is a 2009 zombie horror/comedy film that features the most chilling creatures in cinematic existence; Nazi zombies!

After all, as Tommy Wirkola himself stated in a 2010 Eat My Brains interview:
When we were about to sit down and write the actual script, we started thinking ‘What is more evil than a zombie’? A Nazi-zombie! We have a really strong war-history up in the north of Norway from World War Two, so it was fun to combine actual events with our own story. And you know Nazis have always been the ultimate villains in movies. Combine that with zombies and you really get something that no one would sympathise with“.

Dead Snow Description

Billed as a ‘zombie splatter film’, this hilariously horrific movie stars Charlotte Frogner, Stig Frode Henriksen, Vegar Hoel, Jeppe Laursen, Evy Kasseth Røsten, Jenny Skavlan, Ane Dahl Trop and Lasse Valdal as a group of students on Easter vacation at a small mountain cabin near Øksfjord. However, like all vacation trips to creepy cabins in the woods, these hapless students soon find themselves the unsuspecting victims of a series of violent incidents. What should have been a relaxing Easter vacation quickly descends into a snowy struggle for survival as the students are forced to fend off a horde of Nazi zombies who terrorised and looted the nearby village during World War Two!

Dead Snow
Also starring Bjørn Sundquist, as the Wanderer, and Ørjan Gamst, as Standartenführer Herzog the main living dead antagonist, Dead Snow has accrued an ardent global fan-following since its cinematic release. What’s more, despite its small budget Dead Snow was nominated for four awards at the prestigious Scream Awards in 2009: Fight-to-the-Death Scene, Most Memorable Mutilation, Best Foreign Movie and Best Horror Movie.

Although Dead Snow was originally released in Norwegian, English speaking fans will be happy to hear that the 2010 Blu-ray edition of Dead Snow can be viewed either in Norwegian with English subtitles or dubbed into English with English subtitles; the choice is yours!

Future Dead Snow

Fans of Dead Snow should also check out its sequel, Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead, as well as Tommy Wirkola’s similarly styled feature films including; the aptly titled Kill Bill parody Kill Buljo, the horror/comedy flick Kurt Josef Wagle and the Legend of the Fjord Witch as well as the 2013 US/German blockbuster Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

Dead Snow Verdict:

Dead Snow combines the ultimate combination of baddies: zombies and Nazi’s in a dramatic, funny, shocking, gory story that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Great fight scenes if you don’t mind a bit of gore here and there, Dead Snow is the best Nazi Zombie movie out there!
