Summary
Lucio Fulci’s ultra-gory masterpiece is a must-see classic of zombie cinema. In Italy, ‘ZOMBI 2’ was considered the ‘unofficial sequel’ to DAWN OF THE DEAD which is a George A Romero classic. In England, ‘ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS’ was banned as obscene. In America, ‘ZOMBIE’ was advertised with the tag line “WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!”
No matter what the title, or where it was viewed, this movie became a worldwide splatter sensation for the director, Lucio Fulci, who was consequently dubbed the Maestro Of Gore. ”
It remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin-ripping, gore-gushingly graphic horror hits of all time!”
ZOMBIE / Zombie Flesh Eaters / Zombie 2
Don’t go to the island!
A zombie is found aboard an abandoned boat in a New York Harbour. The boat belongs to a scientist named Bowles who has been away conducting research on the island of Matul, in the Caribbean. Bowles’ daughter, a newspaper reporter and two guides travel to the island to investigate what has happened to the scientist.
Here come the zombies
On reaching the island they soon find themselves besieged by zombies. Much zombie-like behaviour ensues, people die, corpses re-animate. It is an all round Zombie-fest. Some manage to get away from the island and return to New York, bringing evidence of what they have found on the island, so they can prove to the world that zombies exist.
But on their return, it seems zombies aren’t such a well kept secret after all….
Zombie Movie Verdict
This film receives mixed emotions. The director Lucio Fulci definitely has gore off to a fine art. If you are looking for a classic zombie movie with naked women, gore, gut-munching, tropical ethereal atmosphere, apocalyptic doom, and Mia Farrow’s sister Tisa, not to mention a creepy soundtrack, then you probably should watch this film.
It has earned the status of cult zombie movie for a good reason. Many believe it is Fulci’s finest work. Whether you embrace this classic movie or not, it definitely deserves to be watched. Even if it is through slightly open fingers!
