Doc Brown Suit
In 1985, at the end of Back to the Future, we catch our first glimpse of what fasion in 2015 is going to look like when Doc Brown jumps out of the DeLorean to intercept Marty and Jennifer. From the advantage point of post 2015, it is a sad reflection that Doc’s outfit never really caught on. Or maybe not.
Inconveniently, the fashion world from which Doc Brown snatched his unique look only ever existed in the imaginations of the geniuses who brought us Back to the Future. For that reason, you may have trouble putting together an authentique Doc Brown Costume from Back to the Future 2. For example, you might have trouble finding a gold, satin suit or a transparent vinyl tie, in shops today. Moreover, if such a shirt as Doc’s ever had existed, it never made it to the cat walk, nor the fashion boutiques nor possibly even daylight.
Fortunately, help is at hand. An officially licensed version of Doc’s 2015 costume is now available and it contains just about everything you need in order to play a 2015 Doc Brown. That is, with the exception of his socks, his boots and possibly a DeLorean.
This Doc Brown Costume Back to the Future 2 is an officially licensed product. It consists of: jacket, trousers, shirt front, clear tie, wig and sunglasses. Made from 100% polyester, the shiny tricot jacket has a wing collar and long sleeves. Elasticated matching trousers complete the suit. The shirt consists of a shirt front which is held in place with ribbon waist ties, and a hook and loop strip at the back of the collar. A clear vinyl ‘necktie’ hangs at the front. Doc’s wig consists of synthetic hair that is attached to a mesh cap. This outfit also includes reflective plastic sunglasses which have an elastic head loop.

When Doc Brown arrives back from 2015 at the end of Back to the Future, he is wearing an outfit that is so busy, we hardly have time to notice his footwear. On closer inspection, you can see he is wearing a pair of black, military style boots with red laces. Although they have the appearance of a military style boot, they are supple, cleary comfortable, and allow him to move quickly and freely. Furthermore, they are clearly an ideal shoe in which to drive!
Timeless boots for a time traveller
It is fair to assume that as a scientist, Doc Brown is going to pick his attire based on practicality, comfort and a desire to conform to what is socially acceptable in whatever situation he finds himself. His outfit may have got him some odd looks in 1985 but we can assume that in 2015, everything he is wearing from his head to his feet would be de rigueur. The possible exception to this would be these boots. They would have looked as good in 1985 as they did in 2015 and here in 2020.
These Boots are made from 70% leather and 30% Nylon. With a rubber sole and a lightweight, cushioned EVA midsole, they have been designed for comfort. Most people will find there is little to no ‘break-in’ period, most people will find these boots comfortable right out of the box. The uppers are constructed of durable leather and performance nylon. You will find they also contain a moisture wicking mesh lining. This classic 8″ Tactical boot features a side zip to make putting on and taking off as easy as possible. There is a cushioned removable insert for extra comfort. These boots are available in a range of sizes that include wide fittings.
These boots are a great choice for matching with your Doc Brown Costume, particularly if you team them with a pair of the fire colored laces we have suggested below. You are likely to be so impressed with these boots that you will find plenty of uses for them when you are not role playing as Doc Brown. Durable, comfortable and eye-catching, these boots are a great choice for your Doc Brown Costume Back to the Future 2, and versatile enough to be extremely useful in between times.

Red Boot Laces
Doc Brown is hardly known for his sartorial elegance. That said, he does rise to the occasion when there is a requirement to blend in to his surrounding, even in 2015. As a result, it is safe to assume that when Doc Brown purchased his boots in 2015 that they arrived with red laces. Whether you have chosen to select the Boots we have recommended above, or are going to wear your own 2015 friendly pair, these red laces are sure to add a finishing flourish to your Doc Brown Costume Back to the Future 2 outfit.
These Polyester Boot laces consist of a round braided sleeve over a tough inner core. You will find these laces are water resistant and will not fade or shrink. They have been designed to a high standard for maximum performance for shoe/boot laces. That is, they are unlikely to unravel once tied, but are easy to untie when pulled. With just the right amount of stretch to be tied easily, they are a quality lace, designed to last.
The pack contains two pairs of laces. They come in a range of sizes from 27 inches to 160 inches. In a strong, ‘fire-engine’ red, these boot laces are practical, durable, and attractive to the eye.
These fire-engine colored laces have been made to high specification to perform well and provide durability. The construction of these laces with their braided sleeve over hard-core centre, means they should tie easily and remain tied. They come in a whole choice of lengths from 27 inches to 160 inches so have ‘the capacity to embellish a whole breadth of lace up footwear‘ as Doc would say. Thanks Doc.
Eye-catching, practical and extremely well made, we are sure Doc Brown would approve of these laces whole-heartedly. They conform to the required specification of 2015 and they are a high performance lace that do the job. Doc thinks they’re pretty snazzy too.

Long Green Socks
Ask anybody, other that a dedicated fan, what color socks Doc Brown is wearing when he first appears in Back to the Future II and they probably could not tell you. It’s a forgivable oversight, especially considering the collision of fashion faux pas that is, Doc Brown’s outfit. Well, we are here to tell you that Doc Brown was infact wearing a fetching pair of Emerald Green socks that modestly filled the gap between his boots and those memorable gold, satin trousers.
You may not consider these socks to be an essential part of Doc Brown’s costume. Given how busy this outfit is in general, we see your point. However, there are two very good reasons to invest in a pair of these eye-catching long, green socks. Firstly, if you want an authentic looking Doc Brown Costume these are the only way to go. Once you notice his loud green socks, it is difficult to imagine Doc’s ensemble without them. The second reason is purely practical. If you are donning this assault on the senses in the month of October to celebrate Halloween, it makes good sense to have a pair of these socks to keep you warm. You see, Doc thinks of everything!
These long, greeen socks are designed with an athletic cut, so are extra long. Constructed of 15% and 85% Polyester, the double cuff ensures these socks should remain in place when pulled up. The heel and toe have been reinforced for durability whilst there is double ribbing on the instep. A rich, emerald green in color, these socks are practical, comfortable and eye-catching. They come in a range of sizes that include Small, Medium and Large.

These extra long, emerald green socks are a great choice for matching with your Doc Brown Costume, Back to the Future 2. Furthermore, they are so comfortable and practical, you are sure to find a number of alternative occasions to get plenty of use from these socks.

Doc Brown Red Shirt
The shirt that Doc Brown wears with his 2015 ensemble is predominantly red with two conflicting patterns consisting of Chinese style symbols and large black flowers. Unsurprisingly, such an unusual shirt is rather hard to track down here in 2020. As Doc Brown himself would say, “not impossible, just improbable“. Thankfully, there are still some connoisseurs of high fashion out there who recognise a classic when they see one; and here it is.
Why choose this shirt?
The shirt that comes with the Doc Brown suit above is adequate but it does consist of only a shirt front with ties to keep it in place around the back. If you want to take your jacket off at any point during your costume event, it is a definite advantage to have a back to your shirt. The shirt we are recommending here is well made, accurate in design and comes in a range of sizes.
This shirt is a replica of that worn by Doc Brown in Back to the Future II. Predominantly red in color, it has has short sleeves, a turned down collar and an off-center vertical velcro fastening. The front panel has a subtle criss-cross pattern in the fabric that resembles quilting. Vertical, parallel lines of white Chinese-style symbols make up a consistent pattern on the shirt. Several large flowers picked out in bold black outline are scattered across the whole shirt in an ad hoc manner.
Check out the size chart below for exact mesurements of the sizes available which range from Small to Extra Large.
|Chest||Length||Sleeve||Small||36 – 38″||27″||8.5″|
|Medium||39 – 42″||28″||9″|
|Large||43 – 46″||29″||9.5″|
|X-Large||46 – 48″||30″||10″|
This is an accurate replica of the shirt worn by Doc Brown in Back to the Future II. It is the most suitable shirt available for matching with your Doc Brown Costume. For a truly authentic look and a comfortable fit, this is an excellent choice shirt.

- Lens width: 139mm
- 100% protection from UVA/UVB rays

One of the coolest items Doc wears in his 2015 ensemble has to be those silver, reflective, futuristic sunglasses. They clearly obscure his eyes from Marty’s gaze and we see Marty wave his hand in front of the Doc’s eyes, checking to see if he is aware.
Although the suit above does come with a pair of Doc Brown sunglasses, they have been constructed with an elasticated head loop. We have recommended this optional alternative pair based on their design, comfort, versatility and futuristic authenticity.
These futuristic sunglasses are constructed with a plastic frame and non-polarised plastic lenses. The width of each lens is 139mm. Stylish and practical, these sunglasses will provide 100% protection agains the harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun. Furthermore, these sungalsses are made from shatterproof TR-90 material. From the inside they perform as you would expect from a pair of sunglasses. To onlookers, your eyes appear obscured and the unique wrap around design is very futuristic and cool.
These futuristic sunglasses are super cool. If there was one item from Doc Brown’s Costume that you are going to find yourself wearing all the time, it is these sunglasses.
