Left 4 Dead is set during the aftermath of an apocalyptic pandemic. The four protagonists are:
- William “Bill” Overbeck, a Vietnam veteran
- Zoey, a college student
- Louis, an IT analyst
- Francis, an outlaw biker
These survivors have to battle their way through hordes of zombies to reach safety. There are four game modes:
- Single player, in which the other characters are controlled by AI
- Four-player which is cooperative campaign mode
- Eight-player online mode
- Four player survival mode
In all modes the “Director” which is AI driven, controls the incidental aspects of the game in an attempt to create a dynamic experience for the user and increase replay value. To achieve this the Director places enemies and items in varying positions and quantities based upon each player’s current situation, status, skill and location. As a result this creates a new experience for each playthrough of the game.
This game features violence where zombies are killed using a variety of weapons including shot guns, machine guns, Molotov cocktails and hand grenades.
Body parts such as arms and legs are seen blown off, which is accompanied by screams and much blood.
Blood is regularly spattered on the walls and floors.
Left 4 Dead Verdict
As a zombie shooter and survival game, Left 4 Dead is very entertaining, great value for money and a lot of fun to play. This game is real escapist fun, where the main theme is to survive to the end whilst blasting lots of zombies along the way. This game has plenty of mileage for multiple plays.
