Blood Makeup to Create Scabs
Ben Nye products are synonymous with high quality makeup. This particular Blood Makeup is excellent for the task of adding blood to a wound to resemble clotting. It is an authentic brown blood colour so looks like the real thing. When applied, it forms a scab-like bond on the outer layer but does not set completely.
Conveniently, this blood is washable, but it is best to test it on a small area of fabric to ensure it will not stain.
How much do I need?
In terms of quantity, with this blood scab makeup, a little goes a long way. You can expect to get 10-35 applications per ounce.
If you are doing a single makeup, or not intending to use this very often, then a 1oz jar is sufficient. If you are planning to apply makeup to a number of zombies then it is better to go for an 8 or 16oz jar.
How to store
Top tip: when storing, keep this blood makeup in a cool area in order to keep the thick gel like consistency.
Add blood clots to your wound for a realistic look3>
This blood makeup is particularly good at simulating clotted blood around a wound because it is jelly like in texture, resembling a thick paste. The thinner version of fake blood such as Ben Nye stage blood is excellent for wounds where a certain amount of blood would run. This partiular product is ideal for the times when a coagulated, congealed mass around a scab is required, drying to form a nice brown wound colour.
This blood gel is excellent for this type of wound because it does not drip. It will hold its shape as a solid and maintain color also.
I want my wounds to look really gory
If you are planning to do a single zombie makeup then either this blood gel or the Ben Nye stage blood will suffice. However, for a truly gruesome look it is best to use a combination of both. Whereas the stage blood will look good running from a cut, this blood gel can be used to make gaping wounds and laceration really look truly gruesome as the blood will cling to the open wound much like real blood would congeal.
