Die Hard Christmas

You’ve seen the movie. You may have worn the vest. You most certainly will have uttered iconic quotes from the movie. Now is your chance to get your hands on a copy of the illustrated Die Hard Christmas storybook for adults based on the action-packed Die Hard movie. For fans of the movie this will be an absolute delight to read and a treat to own. For others, it’s a chance to give the ideal gift that all Die Hard fans have been waiting to receive.

Theo, be of good cheer.

Theo: [Over the CB, as the police SWAT team closes in] “Alright, listen up guys. ‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring — except for the four assholes coming in the rear in standard two-by-two cover formation”.

Perhaps this line provided the inspiration for author and Die Hard fan Doogie Horner to put together this wonderful Die Hard Christmas Book. We’re just glad he did. Horner takes the familiar story of John McClane’s night in Nakatomi Plaza and recounts it in the style of Clement Clarke Moore’s iconic Christmas poem: “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Follow John McClane on that familiar journey in a book packed with witty words of wisdom penned by Horner and essential illustrations provided by JJ Harrison.

Come out to the coast, we’ll have a few laughs

An hilariously retold story, Die Hard Christmas relives the dramatic events of that Christmas Eve night at Nakatomi Plaza in a familiar and festive fashion that will have you gripped from page 1. The result is an entertaining treasure of story and illustrations that capture all the thrills and spills of the movie and is an absolute must have for Die Hard fans.

You asked for a miracle

You will be delighted to hear that just like the movie, the Die Hard Christmas book has been packed with machine guns, lots of European bad guys, unsuspecting hostages, an off duty police sergeant and a New York cop in a vest. It might be a well known tale but it never gets tired.

No-one is coming to help you

Through amusing illustrations the characters of Hans Gruber, Karl and his brother Tony and all the familiar baddies are brought to life. The narrative humorously recounts the Christmas Eve events at Nakatomi Plaza, punctuating the poetic style with the indispensable humor of John McClane. Hanging the words on a singy songy “Night Before Christmas” theme is a strong reminder that Die Hard is essentially, a great Christmas Movie. As if there was every any doubt: Now I have a machine gun, ho ho ho.

Die Hard Christmas Verdict

Die Hard is the ultimate Christmas action movie. Such a cleverly constructed homage to the movie, Die Hard Christmas is surely destined to become a true Christmas classic and essential reading for all Die Hard fans. This would make an excellent gift for any Die Hard fan, especially at Christmas.

Die Hard The Movie

Die Hard The Movie

Directed by John McTiernan and written by Steven E de Souza and Jeb Stuart, this American action thriller is based on the 1979 novel "Nothing Lasts Forever" by Roderick Thorp. Essentially, the film is about a group of 13 men who break into the Japanese owned Nakatomi building during their Christmas Eve party. Masquerading as terrorists, the gang's intention is to steal the 640 million dollars in bearer bonds contained in the vault and escape the scene during a massive explosion that leaves the FBI assuming they have all been killed, along with the hostages.

John McClane

The one "fly in the ointment, monkey in the wrench" flaw in Hans Gruber's plan is the unanticipated arrival of an off-duty New York police officer, John McClane. From the moment John McClane goes into "stealth hero cop mode" during the hostage takeover, the movie takes the "action thriller" genre to a whole new level. Many movies since have attempted to copy, parody and immitate this iconic film. None come close. Entertaining as they are, that includes the Die Hard sequels.

What makes Die Hard, a die hard movie

As with all good movies, Die Hard tells a story that is compelling, features a main protagonist with whom we empathise, and has an ending that makes sense. As with all great movies, Die Hard also has supporting characters that provide interesting sub-plots. Each of these sub-plots hangs beautifully on the main story, adds interest and meaning to the overall plot and is neatly tied up by the end of the film. Add into this mix the compelling moments of drama, the expertly choreographed fight scenes and a humour that punctuates throughout, and Die Hard rises head and shoulders above it's rivals.
